Jeff Foxworthy Returns to Hometown of Atlanta for Comedy Show

The good news is that Jeff Foxworthy will once again be live on stage in Georgia. The bad news? We have to wait until next March to see him!

I am not a scratch golfer. But I do swing like Phil.

The Atlanta-born-and-raised star got his start in comedy over thirty years ago, and next year’s show will be his first in Atlanta in the past four years.

Back in the 90’s, we laughed  at all the ways to tell if you were were a redneck or not,and we chuckled at the antics of ‘The Jeff Foxworthy Show’.The laughs continued with the ‘Blue Collar Comedy Tour’ which also featured Bill Engvall (also from the Foxworthy show), Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy.

Good news if you aren’t in the Atlanta area, or if you just don’t want to wait; Jeff can be seen at the following dates:

  • August 3   Montana State Fair    Great Falls, Montana
  • August 11  Spirit Mountain Casino    Grand Ronde, Oregon
  • August 17  Viejas Casino & Resort     Alpine, CA
  • August 18   Northwest Washington Fair   Lynden, WA
  • September 1     Mohegan Sun   Uncasville, CT
  • September 22   Mansion Theatre    Branson, MO
  • October 5    Kovalchick Convention & Athletic complex    Indiana, PA
  • October 20  Deadwood Mountain Grand     Deadwood, South Dakota
  • November 24   Hollywood Casino     Hollywood, West Virginia

Kelly Lang’s Latest Album is truly an ‘Obsession’

Kelly Lang has outdone herself, yet again. Her latest 12-track CD,’Obsession’, has been titled appropriately. This recently released album is absolutely an obsession of mine, and new listeners will barely get through a handful of tracks before it becomes their favorite new album as well. The attention-grabbing, beautiful cover is just the beginning.

Written and produced by Lang, she put a lot of herself into this album:

“This is the most personal album I have ever done,” says Lang. “The vulnerability it takes to share your innermost thoughts as a writer with the listener is a bit daunting, but I hope they can feel my sincerity within the music. I hope that everyone can relate to at least one track on this album. It ranges from the upbeat and light hearted ‘Mr. Right’ to the dramatic ballad in ‘I’ll Just Hold My Breath.’ It is a little intimidating being the sole writer and producer on a project because if it’s not well received, you’re responsible for that. However, if it’s good and your audience is into it, that’s also yours to claim.”

And well received, it has been. The relatable lyrics express emotions, thoughts and feelings that cover such a variety of situations. After listening to all cuts, it is doubtful that any listener couldn’t apply the song to their own lives.

Lang’s soulful voice speaks volumes, and in a touching manner, almost as though to be singing to each listener directly; providing new insight to a common situation.

‘Wonder Woman’ is the theme song to independent women, and features some bitchin’ guitar sounds throughout as well.

‘Mr.Right’ doesn’t sugarcoat any messages. Tonight,  December 15, Heartland TV will exclusively premiere the official music video for “His Guitar”. The new video will air at 11 PM CT on Heartland’s Country Music Today video program. Re-airings will be broadcast on Saturday at 5 PM CT and Sunday at 5 AM CT. Following the premiere, “His Guitar” will be added into regular rotation on Country Music Today as well as Heartland’s Third Shift music video show.

I had a lot of adjectives come to mind while reviewing this album: Jazzy, classic, mesmerizing, emotional, lyrical and classy. Soulful, genuine, sexy and lullaby are other words that describe this awesome album, that, well, just might be your very own next ‘Obsession’.

This is one CD that needs to be the newest addition to any music collection.

Just in time for Christmas, autographed copies of Obsession are available for purchase at

Here’s the breakdown of the album:

  1. My New Obsession
  2. Last One Standing In The Rain
  3. What Do You Do When You Don’t
  4. Under A Tennessee Moon
  5. Mr. Right
  6. One Day Too Late
  7. His Guitar
  8. Don’t Play Games With Me
  9. Hell Hath No Fury
  10. Lay Me Down Easy
  11. Wonder Woman
  12. I’ll Just Hold My Breath

Review: Russell Lee’s Single, ‘Meant to Be’

Russell Lee is quickly becoming one of my favorite country artists. On the heels of the successful album, ‘What Do I Do’, comes a beautifully-told story of love.

Meant to Be

Taking the good with the bad, ‘Meant to Be’ shares the emotion that most couples have experienced a few times over their relationship.

Russell Lee’s music is so relatable, and his songs put into words the emotions we all seem to feel at one point or another.

‘Meant to Be’ is a brilliant love song, mixing the most basic of feelings with a variety of situations. This song reaches the young man in love with a woman in a different relationship. He knows that if it is ‘meant to be’, they will end up together eventually.

The single, middle-aged woman who wonders if her Mr. Right will ever be found can also take this song to heart.

That is the wonderful thing about this song, along with others by the artist; the lyrics are so specifically neutral that almost anyone can hear it and adapt it to their specific situation.

Russell Lee is gaining ground in the Canadian Country Music world, with several nominees lately, including Male Artist of the Year. While listening to his songs, I hear more than just a talented baritone. I hear glimpses of the late, great story teller, Mr. Don Williams, mixed with the occasional song stylings of Dwight Yoakum and a dash of Dave Matthews.

This makes for a great and diverse sound, and it is no wonder Russell Lee is making his mark in the country music world. Because, after all, some things are just ‘meant to be’.

To learn more about this artist, or to check out his newest single, visit his website.

Full disclosure, this was a paid review of Russell Lee’s single, with all opinions and thoughts shared within this blog being my own.

Brad Paisley & Ricky Skaggs attend unveiling of statues recognizing two country music and bluegrass icons

Fans of Classic Country know that Little Jimmy Dickens was a big part of that time frame’s musical history. As part of the celebration of the Ryman’s 125th anniversary, a broze statue of the pioneer in country music was revealed today. Dickens became a member of the  Grand Ole Opry in 1948 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1983. At the time of his death in 2015, he was the oldest living member of the Opry.

Because of his big footsteps left behind, long-time friend Brad Paisley spoke at today’s unveiling.

“This was a man who was honing his craft before Hank Williams, who we sort of credit as the father of modern country music in many ways,” said Paisley during the unveiling today. “He saw everything in those decades that he stood on that stage, like Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn and Garth Brooks. By the time Jimmy left us, he had become the Grand Ole Opry. On a night that he wasn’t there, you were cheated out of something and he knew that. He realized when he was well enough to do it, he went. He knew that he owed it to the younger generation that wanted to see him, it was another lesson in how you entertain people. He gave them everything that he had on that stage and in this building for many many years. So I think it’s really appropriate that he’s going to be one of the statues that’s a permanent reminder of what we should be in this building.”

Bill Monroe, the father of Bluegrass, was a gifted singer, songwriter and player. The genre is named after Monroe’s band, the Blue Grass Boys. His band was named after Monroe’s home state of Kentucky.

His career ran for 69 years before he passed away at 84 years old, in September of 1996. Monroe’s most famous classics include  “Blue Grass Breakdown,” “My Rose of Old Kentucky,” and Monroe’s most famous composition, “Blue Moon of Kentucky.”

Monroe was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970, and he settled into a role as a musical patriarch influencing generations of young musicians including Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Ricky Skaggs was only six years old in 1960, when he first got to perform on stage with Monroe and his band at the high school in Martha, Kentucky.

Skaggs shared this during the unveiling of Bill Monroe’s statue:

I don’t know if you ever get another Bill Monroe in a century,” said Skaggs. “There’s not a lot of people that I know of who could be cited as creating a whole new genre of music, but he did. He had the ear to hear it, the talent to play it and the heart to keep it alive because he was strong, he was powerful. I don’t know any person who could have withstood, pushed through and made it like him. He had music in his veins. It was the thing that pushed him so much. It wasn’t just to make a living. It was to get something out of him and take to people that he loved, and that was the fans that loved this music. I have traveled all over the world into places you would think that bluegrass music would never make it to … and you meet someone there that actually plays the music. So this music has totally gone around the world.

Hank Jr To Ask Again, ‘Are You Ready for Some Football’?

The opening credits of ESPN’s Monday Night Football has been a bit boring since 2001. Luckily, the six-year bad streak is about to end. This fall, fans will once again be hearing the iconic anthem, led by Hank Williams, Jr. Even better news- he won’t be alone. Popular duo, Florida Georgia Line and recording artist Jason Derulo will also be participants.

When the kick-off of the returning season happens, it will make the 24th season that Williams has performed the weekly anthem. The 48th season is set to begin September 11th, with a doubleheader. New Orleans Saints @ Minnesota Vikings will kick off the season, followed by the LA Chargers @ Denver Broncos.

The opening anthem will vary each week, featuring team-specific lyrics and visuals, based on the pre-scheduled regular-season ESPN matchups.

Webster PR shared the following quotes from ESPN, Williams, Florida Georgia Line members and music director Ricky Reed:

Monday Night Football has the most famous music video in sports television. It’s time to bring it back,” said Stephanie Druley, Senior Vice President, ESPN events and studio production. “The combination of Hank Williams Jr. with Florida Georgia Line and Jason Derulo will get fans excited and ready for kickoff every Monday night on ESPN this fall.”

“I started in 1989 when ABC was celebrating the 20th season of Monday Night Football,” said Hank Williams Jr. “It soon became a staple that fans grew to expect and wanted to see and hear. I am thrilled to be back and bring the fans such a new and dynamic rendition of this anthem. Are You Ready For Some Football? Cause I sure am!”

Ricky Reed (Nice Life Recording Company), a 2016 Grammy Award nominee for Producer of the Year, is the music director. Mike “Spike” Szykowny (producer) and co-directors Lucas Nickerson and Chris Mantzaris of ESPN Creative Services are overseeing production of the video with MNF producer Jay Rothman and Vice President, Creative and Studio Direction, Bob Toms. Habana Avenue produced the video shoot.

“This is a huge honor to be a part of such a legendary song and night!” said Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard.

FGL’s Brian Kelley added: “We all grew up watching Monday Night Football and it’s surreal to join Jason Derulo and Hank Williams Jr. on this new version that gives a nod back but also a step forward!”

John Anderson Highlighted by County Music Hall of Fame

The Country Music Hall of Fame honors the best of the best within the Country Music field. Last year, it was the Oak Ridge Boys and Charlie Daniels, to name a few. Beginning in just a few weeks, another giant in the music business will be honored with a spotlight exhibit of his very own.

John Anderson

Florida native John Anderson has influenced countless artists over his 40 years in the business, and is one artist who can honestly say that he was active in the building of the Opry. Not only was Anderson a performer in the WSM Radio show regularly, he was also part of the building crew that helped build the current Opry location.

Anderson provided this statement to Webster PR:

We are looking forward to our appearance on Nissan Stadium, as its been several years since we participated in CMA Music Fest and I am looking forward to it,” said Anderson. “I am very grateful and flattered that the folks at the Country Music Hall of Fame would consider me for an exhibit. This is something that most artists only dream about and for me it’s becoming a reality. Love and thanks to the fans who have supported us through the years as well as the folks at the Hall Of Fame.

It was back in 1977 that the artist signed with Warner Brothers Records, and quickly climbed the charts with songs such as “ I’ve Got a Feeling”,  “She Just Started Liking Cheatin’ Songs”, and “Let Somebody Else Drive”.

During his ‘90s comeback, fans of country music likely remember hits like “Straight Tequila Night”, “Money in the Bank”, and “Mississippi Moon”.

In honor of the 35th anniversary of one of his popular hits,”Swingin’”, Anderson will  take the stage at the CMA Music Festival on June 10th, and will include his mega-hit for festival fans.

Webster PR also has shared a look into the exhibit. The new spotlight exhibit will include such items as:

  • An early stage costume from Anderson’s wardrobe embroidered patterns and rhinestones designed by western designer Manuel.
  • A Manuel-designed wool and leather jacket with Native American motifs worn by Anderson on the cover of his Seminole Wind and in the video for “Straight Tequila Night.”
  • Anderson’s 1968 Fender Telecaster that the singer played in the video for “Straight Tequila Night.”
  • A tooled leather guitar strap with Anderson’s initials.
  • A stuffed alligator owned by Anderson.
  • Anderson’s two CMA Awards from 1983 – Horizon Award and Single of the Year (“Swingin”)

Russell Lee’s Newest Album is a classic country/rockabilly mix of sound

Russell Lee can be labeled as a Canadian Country Rock musician, a talented baritone who tells vivid stories with his songs and someone who is passionate about his music. His first album ‘In the Night’ was released awhile back, and included the popular ‘I Often Wonder’ that received heavy airtime.

Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Lee possesses both an instinctive passion and true calling for the music world. Siting hard work and craft dedication to his current success, Lee remains grounded as his career continues to skyrocket.

From his current album, ‘What Do I Do’, a single by the name of  ‘Picture’ held lyrics that really drew me in. Lee paints a ‘picture’ with the words, and his style and tone resembles classic country music in a way. He provides a mellow, relaxed vibe, while his clear baritone notes ring out clean and rich, line after line.  His cover of ‘If You Could Read My Mind’ is a touching one, almost with just a hint of haunt in his voice. Brilliantly covered.

With 12 cuts ranging from true country sounds to gospel to rock, there is enough variety to please even the toughest of critics.

I hear a mellow Dwight Yoakum in some of Lee’s songs; sometimes a tone similar to Buddy Holly comes shining through. A bit of hillbilly-rock tossed in with deeper tones provides Lee with a sound all his one, and one that this writer digs.

His version of ‘Amazing Grace’ is truly captivating. While listening to this cut, I closed my eyes and could sense his passion coming through the words he sang.

A line  taken from the song, ‘Picture’, is ‘There’s a story in all us, just waiting to be told’, and Russel Lee’s stories, told through his songs, should reach the top of the charts. Talented and different, Lee stands out from the crowd.

Full disclosure, this was a paid review of Russell Lee’s album, ‘What Do I Do’, with all opinions and thoughts shared within this blog as my own.

Review: Sylvia’s ‘All in the Family’

Sylvia’s new album, It’s All in the Family, is a must-have for ‘classic’ country fans. Her first record in 14 years will be available for purchase on October 8th, 2016.

I hope this music inspires and encourages people of all ages to continue to create in whatever genre brings them joy,” stated Sylvia. “I have found that there is no age limit on creativity. Your best work is ahead of you! I’ve felt like a kid again making this record, and I can hardly wait to share it with the world!

After reviewing this album, I can sum up all my thoughts by saying this album is Storytelling at its best.  A ‘skittles mix’ of song styles and sounds, this album offers something for everyone.

Her pure, crisp vocal style shines through each and every track. She has brought back the traditional country sounds during intros to songs like ‘Every Time a Train Goes By’ and ‘All in the Family’.  ‘Somebody’s Daughter’ reminds us to be nice to everyone, and features violins throughout the song, and also features a nice instrumental intro that is peaceful.

The attention grabbing, romantic vibes on ‘Leave the Past in the Past’ is something every couple can relate to at one time or another in their lifetime.

Her songs really seem to draw the listener in, allowing the words to paint vivid scenes in the mind of the listener.

The bluegrass breakdown on ‘Grandpa Kirby Runnin’ the Hounds’ was a nice treat, while ‘A Right Turn’ features the perfect blend of instrumentals, providing the classic country sound. Switching sounds from Americana to Irish tunes, ‘Immigrant Shoes’ depicts an epic journey from one shore to another.

My favorite track from this album is ‘Cumberland Rose’. From the  A cepella intro, this song is stripped down, featuring her welcoming voice that draws you in. Backed up by a friendly banjo, the bluegrass overtones blend in to the vocals, providing another welcomed nod to the 80s country.

Speaking of music from the 80’s, Sylvia’s hits from that decade include ‘Snap Shot’, ‘Nobody’ and ‘Never My Love’.

Currently on tour, Sylvia can be seen at these locations:

Sept. 10 – Llano, Texas – Llano Country Opry Latex Theater

Nov. 4 – Saginaw, Mich. – Temple Theater

Nov. 5 – Allegan, Mich. – Allegan High School

Country Music Hall of Fame to Induct Charlie Daniels & Randy Travis

Charlie Daniels, Randy Travis and Fred Foster will be the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. The trio will be inducted later this fall.

Charlie Daniels has been a favorite in country music since he let loose with the mega-hit, ‘Devil Went Down to Georgia’. The high-energy, fiddlin’ tune is one that Daniels says he looks forward to playing at the end of each concert.

“I get a chance to play it better tonight than I did last night and better tomorrow night than I did tonight. I haven’t played it perfect yet. I am in love with walking on stage and entertaining people with songs I have written. It’s one of the few times in my life that I feel like I know what I’m doing.”

While Daniels will be inducted in the Veteran’s Era category,  Travis will be the 2016 inductee in the Modern Era category. Randy Travis found a huge success in the 80’s, with hits like ‘Forever and ever, Amen’ and ‘I told you so’.

Johnny Lee releases new album; plenty of tour dates

My earliest memory of hearing Johnny Lee on the radio was with his hit’ Picking up Strangers’. Through the years, he has kicked out hit after hit, and according to him, new hits are on the way.

Johnny Lee: You Aint' Never Been To Texas

According to a press release from Webster PR, (who Lee just recently signed with), Lee had the following to say about his newest album,

“We’re busier than ever out there on the road and now we have this new album, You Aint’ Never Been to Texas, that I’m really proud of because it’s about as country as you can get. You can bet we’ll be playing a few new tunes out there for the fans, so we hope they’ll come out and see us”

The twelve-cut CD can currently be pre-ordered from the country crooner’s website.  Even if I had never even heard of Johnny Lee, I would buy this album simply because of the warning label on the cover. It is refreshing to see country artists stepping up and producing country songs that leave the hip-hop out.

Loretta Lynn’s new album, Full Circle, makes ‘classic country’ modern again!

Loretta Lynn has always been a pioneer in the country music world. She was one of  the first women to sing about the true and controversial topics such as birth control, and her duets with Conway are just as popular today as they were 30 years ago.

Full Circle is Loretta Lynn's first album in nearly 12 years.

What is the power behind her longevity? Loretta seems to have always stayed close to her roots, her true self. She didn’t create a persona to become famous, she was herself. Fans of country music saw Loretta for what she was, a talented singer and songwriter, drawing on her own life experiences. The real-life overtones of her songs resonated with country fans, bringing to the spotlight situations that were similar to their lives. Loretta became a voice women could relate to, and that level of connection is what leaves the superstar timeless.

While listening to Loretta’s new album, ‘Full Circle’, I am reminded of her talent, and her ability to mix modern with classic tones, all while never changing her brand of country.

‘Full Circle’ consists of 13 songs and a one-minute intro at the start of the album. It is a collection of new and classic hits, and is a new-found favorite of this writer. As a fan of ‘classic country’ music, I would love to see more albums released from the artists of that time frame.

The first song, ‘Whispering Sea’ has a Hawaiian feel to it. Perhaps a blue Hawaiian feel. While listening to the instrumental opening, one could picture palm trees swaying and slow-moving luau dancers. Loretta’s haunting accent comes into play, reminding us why she has always been a staple within the country music field.

Loretta provides a fresh take on a classic staple made famous by Elvis and covered by Willie Nelson. ‘Always on my mind’ was a good choice for this album, as it fits perfectly with her ability to take a famous song, put her style and sound into it, providing what almost seems like a brand new song.

Speaking of remaking a classic, I was glad to hear an updated version of her hit, ‘Fist City’. Her spunk still shines through clearly, and is just another example of why we love Loretta.

To answer one of Loretta’s other titles from the new album, everyone is going to miss you when you are gone. Miss Loretta, you have created ageless stories for generations to come. Stories that have been shared from mothers to daughters, friends to friends and you have provided a voice, and a legacy, that will remain always.

Here He Comes, Boogity Boogity: “Ray Stevens’ Nashville” a Hit!!

Saturday evenings just got a bit more interesting for this couch potato! While channel surfing, I came across ‘Ray Stevens’ Nashville’ on RFD-TV. The hour-long show is a blend of Ray’s unique comedy, shared insider stories along with a hit song from  country music guest stars and a dance with an audience member during closing credits.

The episode I caught featured Larry Gatlin of the Gatlin Brothers. He and Ray joined voices on the hit song, ‘All the Gold’, and a story was shared about Larry’s first official evening in Nashville.

This show is entertaining on so many levels! I was raised on music that is now considered classic, including the many hits from the funny man., so to be able to watch his show every week and to laugh at his musical stories again is simply great. You never really outgrow getting the giggles from Ethel’s, Margaret’s and the Mississippi squirrel’s bad luck; there is just something classic about his songs.

To be able to hear the stories from other country stars is just as entertaining. I have watched two episodes to date, and each guest star had a story that involved Mel Tillis.

For those who wish they still had all of Ray’s cassette tapes, breathe easy! The show features commercials that advertise a huge collection of his comedy skits for sale on CD. A perfect Christmas gift!

RFD-TV has listed “Ray Stevens’ Nashvillle” as a year-long show, so there will be plenty of guest stars to watch each and every Saturday night!

Kenny Rogers’ “Once Again it’s Christmas”CD is this season’s must have album!

Right on the heels of the announcement of Mr. Kenny Rogers’ retirement, a new album was announced. It has been 17 years since his last Christmas-themed album.

Kenny Rogers with Home Free. Photo Credit:

While the album was released at the end of September, I have just now started listening to Christmas music this season. I now wish I would have begun listening sooner, as this album really sets the mood for the Christmas season.

‘Once Again Its’ Christmas’ is a well-mixed collection of duets, Christmas staples and a few new tunes. Featuring amazing duets with some other great names in country music, such as Jennifer Nettles, Alison Krauss and A cappella group ‘Home Free’, this latest, and likely last album from Kenny Rogers  is a must-have for all fans!

A well-rounded, 11-track album, ‘Once Again it’s Christmas’ can really set the scene for Christmas cheer.

Check out the video of ‘Children, Go Where I Send Thee’, the song featuring Home Free. In just three days of being posted on YouTube, the video has been viewed over 100,000 times.

If you are like me and usually don’t start the Christmas celebration until after Thanksgiving, cut yourself some slack and check out this Christmas album-You will be glad you did!

Sneak Peek Look at T.G. Sheppard’s Upcoming Duet CD

When I learned that T.G. Sheppard had a new album releasing soon, I was so excited! Having been raised on country music, and finding today’s ‘country’ less appealing than the style currently classified as ‘classic’, I was glad that my preferred music style was going to once again be available for sale via CD and/or iTunes.

TG Sheppard 2015 tour dates

T.G.Sheppard was one of my mom’s favorite artists, so his music was a staple in my childhood home. During that same time, the Oak Ridge Boys were at the top of the charts, along with Ricky Skaggs, Conway Twitty and cousins Jerry Lee and Mickey.

Not only has T.G.Sheppard brought us a modern CD, but he has brought all the above mentioned stars with him. His CD, available for purchase on Oct. 30th, featured duets with the mighty Oaks, the late and greats George Jones and Conway Twitty, along with Ricky Skaggs and ‘The Killer’ himself, Mr. Jerry Lee Lewis.

I received a promo CD in the mail yesterday, and I just can’t rave enough about this modern, classic country CD! It has bluegrass and gospel, a thumping piano tune in one or two songs and the kind of musical style and tone standard in the classic country genre.

I have posted a small summary/review of the first half of the CD, and will share my thoughts on the second half of the CD next week.

  • ‘Down on my Knees’ –featuring the Oak Ridge Boys

The first track on the CD really seemed to provide a summary of the entire CD. Featuring a strong, and much appreciated bluegrass overtone, this song provided the typical gospel sound, along with strong quartet background vocals from the Oak Ridge Boys.

  • ‘The Killer’-featuring Jerry Lee Lewis

I was hooked halfway through the opening line, belted out by ‘The Killer’ himself. He sang, “They don’t call me the Killer for nothing”.  T.G. reveals where he was when first hearing ‘Whole lotta shakin’ goin on’ and goes on to talk about his experience at a JLL concert:  “He burned the piano down, as he played ‘Great Balls of Fire’; He killed us all, as the flames went higher”

Another great line performed by Jerry Lee: “I haven’t gone anywhere, but man, I ‘m still really something.”

This song has the amazing  piano sound that fans have come to expect from Lewis. Throw in some good old rock ‘n roll and you have the ultimate tribute song.

  • ‘Why me, Lord?’ with the late, great Conway Twitty

What an amazing song, combined with two country stars. The blending of Conway’s voice with T.G.’s is pure harmony, providing an emotional feel to the gospel staple.

  • ‘Song Man’ with Merle Haggard

“Does anyone need a good song man?”, the song asks. If so, look no further than Merle and T.G. They have songs about right and wrong, heaven and hell. This song features the classic country sound that has been absent for too many years. Kudos to Mr. Sheppard for bringing back ‘real’ country music!

  • ‘Fifteen rounds with Jose Cuervo’-with Delbert McClinton

Mexico. Liquor. Need I say more? Fun song with great a Mexican spirit and sound.

  • ‘The Next One’-with Lorrie Morgan

This one has more of a jazz feeling, like a great jazz nightclub song. Lorrie Morgan sounds fantastic in this cut, and she and T.G. Sheppard paint a clear picture with their harmonies and lyrics.

  • 100% chance of Pain’-featuring BJ Thomas and Jimmy Fortune

This song features awesome sounding harmonies by Jimmy Fortune, and it was a great to hear something new from BJ Thomas as well. Just a few songs into the new album, and I just can’t stop thinking how great it is to hear modern ‘classic country’ music!

  • ‘It’s a Man Thing’-with George Jones

Guitars kick this song off. Along with the help of the late, great George Jones, T.G. Sheppard explains what it’s like to a guy. A ‘typical day in the life of a man’ is the best way to sum up this fun song.

  • ‘Wine to Remember, Whiskey to Forget’-with Mickey Gilley

The fiddles open this song, setting the tone. Enter classic country lyrics at its’ best: heartbreak and liquor. This is classic country gold, but gets even better when Mr. Mickey Gilley belts out a verse or two. So far, this is one of my favorite cuts on the CD.

So, I have reviewed the first half of the CD, and want to share with you that the second half is just as great!

The remaining songs include duets with Kelly Lang and Ricky Skaggs. The album hits stores and iTunes on October 30th, so be sure to pick up your copy of this amazing CD that brings back classic country sounds.

Throughout his career , he has earned too  many number one hits to count, and just as many awards. From ground-breaking duets with Dolly, Dottie West and Wynonna, to soulful love songs such as ‘Lady’, ‘You Decorated My Life’ and ‘Don’t Fall in Love with a Dreamer’, Kenny Rogers voice has been with country music fans all ‘Through the Years’.

No stranger to the small screen, Rogers also fared well in movies such as ‘The Gambler’ series, ‘Six Pack’ and ‘Wild Horses’.

While he has had an excellent career, saying goodbye is always difficult. To view a personal message filmed for his fans, explaining his decision to retire, click here.

The lyrics to probably his most popular song have never been more appropriate than today: ” You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em. Know when to walk away, know when to run…”

Thank you, Kenny Rogers, for all the sung lyrics that applied to my life, all your fans’ lives, at one time or another. For all the Gambler movies this country gal could handle, and for giving your all in each and every performance for all your fans.

You have been a bright, shining star,  all ‘Through the Years’, and will be missed by the country music world.

New Album from Alabama is the perfect blend of Rock and Country

When I learned of Alabama’s upcoming album, I was more than excited! Growing up with Alabama’s music, I was thrilled that I could add another album to my online collection.

While listening to tracks online of the newly released ‘Southern Drawl’ album, I was pleasantly surprised. I had been reading where the album wasn’t what folks would be expecting as ‘typical Alabama. While the love songs on the album were just as strong as classic singles, a few of the songs did feature today’s version of country songs.

Just like when the group started climbing the charts in the 80’s, today’s Alabama’s  is still performing with the same heart and soul. Alabama has always been a trend setter, and their take on today’s music still leaves them in a league of their own.

Ballads such as ‘As Long as There’s Love’ and ‘Wasn’t Through Lovin’ You Yet’ are similar to what ‘Bama fans are used to. The group easily switches gears, producing a very modern sound with single ‘Footstompin’ Music’.

‘I Wanna Be There’ will pull at the heartstrings of anyone who has been blessed with a child. While listening to this song, I automatically recalled phases of my daughter’s life, and I think many others can relate just as easily to this song.

‘One on One’ clearly demonstrates that Randy Owen still knows how to sing a romantic ballad!

The a Capella group, ‘Home Free’ had their newest album released  on the same day, and one of their songs  paid tribute to the boys from Fort Payne. You can read that full article here.

While I personally prefer the ‘old school’ style of Country music, this album has a great sound.

Bottom line: If Alabama records it, I am going to love it!

Home Free’s New Album, Country Evolution, brings back country in a spectacular way!

What does A cappella music, the Oak Ridge Boys and Charlie Daniels have in common? Home Free! The brilliantly talented singers of Home Free have take a handful of classic country staples, remixed them, and invited the original groups to perform on the album with Home Free.

Home Free

The revamped version of ‘Elvira’ was unfolded in an upbeat music video that featured the mighty Oaks. Home Free’s newest album, Country Evolution, hit iTunes on September 18th. Their version of ‘Elvira’, featuring the Oak Ridge Boys,is on the album, as well as a strong, energy-filled version of ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’, with a little help from fiddle-expert Charlie Daniels.

Also included on the album are  ‘Friends in Low Places’, ‘Seven Bridges Road’ and ‘Honey, I’m Good’. A total of 14 songs have been compiled onto their newest, deluxe issue CD.

The video for ‘Seven Bridges Road’ was released on You Tube on the 19th, and has already raked up 53,805 views. The aspect of their videos that I enjoy is seeing their personalities shining through. It is evident they are really enjoying the ride they are on, and appreciate what they get to do. While I haven’t seen them in concert yet, I would imagine their shows are just as relaxed and entertaining as their videos. Speaking of seeing this group live…

Home Free’s tour is in full swing across the nation. Click here to find out where you see them.

Until you catch them live, be sure to check out the ‘Elvira’ music video. After watching this video,as well as many others on YouTube,  you will likely be hooked, and just might want to be a fan of Home Free, lovingly referred to as ‘home fries’ from the band.

Have you seen Home Free in concert? I plan on attending next month, in Orlando, and would love to hear about your concert experience in the comment section below!
